Dinosaurs still roam the earth at this attraction

Dinosaurs are still roaming the earth in a very unique town called Cave City, near Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky.

Dinosaur World is the name of a new outdoor dinosaur museum where over 100 life-sized dinosaurs roam in an outdoor museum setting wait to greet visitors. The Dinosaurs are so believable that some visitors claim to see them moving through the shadows cast by the many native trees. Some of the creatures are up to 80 feet in length and each accompanied by a natural looking rock plaque with interesting facts about each dinosaur. The dinosaur trail itself is a beautiful half mile walk through a native hardwood forest. Both the trail and most of the park has paved pathways, so it is mostly handicap accessible and is suitable for seniors, wheelchairs or strollers.

Families can easily spend hours at the park not only on the Dinosaur Walk, but also at a variety of other exhibits.

A highlight of the park is the Fossil Dig. Here, visitors can sift through sand in a paleontological setting in search of authentic fossils to take home as a memento of their trip. Everything from shark teeth to sea urchins, dinosaur bone chips and more are hidden treasures at the Fossil Dig for Dinosaur World guests to find.

Dinosaur World is a new park, which opened to the public June 6th of 2003. The indoor Prehistoric Museum is a new exhibit opening just last July. The museum houses thousands of square feet of dinosaur and other prehistoric exhibits. There are over thirty exhibits of prehistoric artifacts including Triceratops Horns and Stegoceras Skulls to Velociraptor Eggs and Meteorites. Visitors can even see authentic dinosaur dung, scientifically called “Coprolite”. The museum has a Paleontologist Field Work Exhibit describing how Paleontologists study and excavate fossils in nature. The building is full of life sized signs addressing questions such as the colors and camouflage of dinosaurs to the extinction of the prehistoric giants. There are also “touch and tell” exhibits providing hands on interaction. “The museum is designed with many turns and hallways. The atmosphere is perfect. It will peak the curiosity of all ages,” said Park Director Nicole Randall. “Our guests will find amazing artifacts and fun, educational facts at every exhibit.”

The Dinosaur Movie Cave shows short educational dinosaur movies in a unique setting. Guests entering the Movie Cave are watched by a dinosaur as they enter a man made cave to learn about Allosaurus and the others that ruled at the real Jurassic Park.

The first look at the 5,000 square foot Gift Shop is breath-taking. It holds everything from stuffed dinosaur toys to fossils and authentic dinosaur eggs. The shop is suitable for children of all ages and hidden treasures are on every isle.

Even the picnic areas and playgrounds are fun filled and dinosaur themed. The playground is surrounded on all sides with a covered picnic area with dinosaur murals as a backdrop. There are even dinosaurs hiding in the bathrooms!

Dinosaur World is very family and child friendly. Even pets on leashes are welcome to enjoy the park. The large amount of parking, very affordable group rates and easy to read park maps make Dinosaur World perfect for buses and larger groups. Birthday parties are also frequently held at the park. What could be more fun than having your birthday with over 100 life sized dinosaurs?

It is not unusual to pay upwards of $40 for theme park and museum admission in today’s economy; however, admission to Dinosaur World is very well priced at $12.75 for adults, $9.75 for children ages 3 to 12, $10.95 for seniors, $5 per person for groups of 12 or more.

Dinosaur World’s location also makes visiting easy. Dinosaur World is located on Interstate 65, Exit 53 in Cave City, just one hour from both Louisville, Kentucky and Nashville, Tennessee. The park is also just 10 miles from Mammoth Cave National Park, home to the world’s longest cave system. Call 270-773-4345 or visit www.dinoworld.net for more information on Dinosaur World.
